Wharton Borough (07885) is located in Morris County, NJ. The community has a total area of 2.2 square miles and has approximately 2,400 housing units. The community was originally incorporated as the Borough of Port Oram in 1895 from portions of Randolph Township and Rockaway Township. The Borough's name changed to Wharton in 1902. The Morris Canal ran through the community and many of the homes were built in the 1800s and early 1900s. The community has is a mixture of single and multi-family homes with a strong rental base. Main Street has lots of small shops and restaurants. Newer housing developments and neighborhoods in include Sterling Heights which was built in the 1990s and features colonial homes on 1/3 acre lots.

Commute

Residents have easy access to Interstate 80 for an eastbound commute. The train station in Dover is located nearby as well as Lakeland Bus Lines with service to NYC.

Schools

Wharton Borough School District serves public school students in Kindergarten through eighth grade. Schools in the district are the Marie V. Duffy Elementary School (K - 5) and Alfred C. MacKinnon Middle School (grades 6 - 8). Public school students in grades 9 - 12 attend Morris Hills High School, in Rockaway Borough, which also serves the residential community of Rockaway Township.

Recreation

Wharton has numerous parks and recreational facilities which include Memorial Park, Milennium Park, Huff Street Playground, and the Robert and Lafayette athletic fields.
